10. Build Relationships

View networking as building relationships rather than quick strategy, and don’t expect to gain clients from attending one event. In fact release yourself of the pressure to gain any clients at all and you’ll be able to be much more natural and authentic. This is what will draw your ideal clients to you.

9. Think outside the box

Ask yourself, “Where do my ideal clients hang out?”. Then pick networking events that your ideal clients are at.

8. Connect

Make sure you connect with people you resonate with who could be great referral sources and potential clients or are people you can help outside the networking meeting.

7. Follow-Up

Follow up straight away with people you meet at networking events with a brief email. I recommend following up the same day or the next morning. I always suggest a quick call in this email to get to know each other better.

6. Be Of Service

Approach people at networking events with the focus of, “How can I help you?” rather than “What can you do for me?”. Remember you are likely to know people who could be great contacts for the person you are speaking to. It only takes a few minutes to introduce people via email, yet the benefit can last a lifetime and be remembered.

5. Do what you say you’ll do

If you say you will do something to a person you meet at a networking event, then do it! If you don’t then it will make the person you have connected with at the networking event question your ability to deliver the services you provide.

4. Don’t Just Stick To Your Local Area

Consider travelling outside your local area to a networking group that you haven’t been to before so you can expand your reach and mix with different people.

3. Start Your Own Networking Group

Think about creating your networking group if you are not finding a networking group where your ideal clients are. Keep your eyes pealed for the all new “Coaches Community” coming very soon – I will be hosting live networking events in Cambridge and London and online networking events too!

2. Join A National Networking Organisation

Join a national networking organization as a member such as 4Networking and get to be a visitor at any networking group across the country. Consider becoming a team member or team leader of a national networking group – this can lead you to become trusted by those attending and will help you connect with all the new visitors to your meeting.

1. Learn From Others

Use your networking as an opportunity to learn about how to make your business more successful. For instance, test out how well your pitch is working on your ideal clients and get feedback. Getting your message right is key to being successful as a Coach in business, so practicing at networking events is invaluable. Don’t worry if you are nervous the first few times, you will soon get the hang of it. Once you perfect your pitch you’ll have your ideal clients crossing the room to come speak to you!
