Common Mistake No. 1 – Offering one off sessions
You have probably been doing coaching for free with family and friends, so getting paid is a step up. You feel grateful to just get a client, even if it is just for one session or on a session by session basis.
The problem with offering one off sessions, and working on a session by session basis, is that you are not conveying your expertise to your clients and prospects. You are also not giving yourself the opportunity to deepen your knowledge and expertise either. Working on a one off or session by session basis means you don’t see your clients for enough sessions to witness them go through the transformation they desire.
Common Mistake No. 2 – Undercharging and undervaluing yourself
As a new coach, you have yet to gain confidence in your abilities. This confidence you think will come once you have clients, so for now you feel it is best to charge a low price to try to gain clients. The reality is that most people connect a high price to a high-quality service and a low price to a service that is not very good.
Common Mistake No. 3 – Spreading yourself too wide
You might not be clear where your true expertise really lies right now and feel that it is best to get experience with anyone who wants to work with you. What happens is that you end up spreading yourself too wide and at worst not attracting any clients, or at best, attracting clients to are not right for you.
Common Mistake No. 4 – Lacking Self-Belief
Do you find yourself thinking, “I am not experienced enough to charge for my services what I want to charge”, “I will know I am a good Coach once I get clients”, “I will be happy to invest in my business once I have clients”..
You are withholding approval from yourself until you meet certain goals. This is withholding your self-belief from yourself. You will find that your entrepreneurial journey will be much harder than it would otherwise be. Lacking self-belief is an incredibly common mistake that new coaches make. It is such a shame because it hampers their ability to make decisions that will move their business forwards to success. Is it hampering your decision making?
Common Mistake No. 5 – Thinking you can do this on your own
If there was a fire in your house, would you call the Fire Service or try to put the fire out on your own with a bucket of water?

In the same way thinking you can get your Coaching business up and running without making any of the common mistakes new coaches make is wishful thinking. Especially if you lack knowledge of marketing, business and the technology involved.
