So in my last post,“Why most therapy practices fail” I gave you all the reasons why many therapists struggle to make sufficient income from their therapy practice. I laid out all the reasons from the poor business model, to an average sessional rate that well below where it needs to be for therapists to make a proper living, to the issue with so many of us fishing in the same local river for clients.
So what is the solution?
Well, I hinted that the solution is to take your therapy business online. I’m going to lay out my 5 Reasons here (and let us see if you agree with me when you get to the end of this post!)..
Reason 1: Taking Your Therapy Practice Online Opens Your Business Up To Over 7 Billion People!
By moving your business Online you counter the issue of only having a limited local population to offer your services to. Instead you suddenly open yourself up to the worldwide (or at least English speaking) International Audience.
Reason 2: Working Online Means You Are No Longer Affected By Local Rates For Your Services
Offering your services to an international audience means that you are no longer restricted by the economic, cultural and other factors affecting your local population – meaning that you can put your prices up! (I hope you are jumping up and down with delight because you can double or even triple your sessional rate when you take your business online).
Reason 3: It Is Easier To Find & Attract Your Ideal Clients
Thirdly, opening yourself and your services up to an international audience means that there are many more people with the particular problems that you have expertise in helping and that there could be much more demand for your particular form of therapy.
Reason 4: People Who Seek Therapy Online Are Used To Buying More Than One Session At A Time
People who seek therapy (and coaching) online are familiar with buying a series of sessions or a “package” rather than buying one off sessions. A package tends to include not just sessions but some email support and perhaps video or training resources.
Some therapists fear that packages force clients into something that feels restrictive for them as they have to commit to the package rather than an individual session. But I think this can provide the client with more value and support with achieving their desired outcome, and the ability to relax knowing that they are going to be held over a set period of time.
This does mean that you need to be very clear on what you are selling and how your particular therapy helps your ideal clients.
Importantly, what offering a package gives to the therapist is the chance to work with fewer clients (as clients stay for a set length), and increase their financial stability. (The knock on impact of this is that it can prevent therapists from burning out from having to see too many clients to earn a wage that sustains them!).
Reason 5: You Can Enjoy More Flexibility, Time & Freedom
The ultimate reason I think that therapists should take their therapy practice online is that it gives them more flexibility, freedom and time. I mean, who doesn’t want to be able to travel and work from anywhere in the world? I know I do.
