If you have been thinking about going in a new direction with your business, or even changing focus altogether. Then your heart has probably had a lot to do with this decision.
Your heart has probably been calling you for some time now, wanting you to make this move. Your mind on the other hand may have been resisting this change and bringing up all the reasons why you shouldn’t “rock the boat” and take this leap.
Very sensible questions like,
“But how will you make your money?”, “You’ve given so much to finally get to this place -why would you want to give up on all that work?”, “What will your partner, parents, family think?”
I see this with a lot of my clients. Their fearless heart has already dived off the diving board into the deep end of the swimming pool with both feet.
However, their mind is lagging way behind, looking for arm floats, a safety helmet and reminding them about all the things that could go wrong and reasons why they shouldn’t take this leap and should stay exactly where they are.
The push and pull between heart and mind can create huge inner turmoil and confusion. If you have ever felt the pull of your passions forwards and the worries of your mind, then I am sure you will relate to how intense the turmoil can be.
What’s the answer you might ask? Well to borrow from the 80’s singer Roxette, “Listen to your heart when he’s calling to you, listen to your heart, there’s nothing else you can do, I don’t know where you are going, and I don’t know why, but listen to your heart before you tell him goodbye”.
You see if you don’t take the leap and follow your passions, you’ll always have that sense of “what if” and regrets for the road you didn’t travel.
So what is the alternative?
If you stay where you are and don’t follow your heart, it is likely that in the long run you will suffer more. Staying where you are isn’t the comfortable option.
In terms of your business there are going to be compromises that you’ll be making in order to stay put. For instance, your experience of aliveness will be compressed by continuing to work with clients or offer services that are no longer a fit for you and your heart. Your light will be diminished, your motivation will be waning, and you might even find yourself having to drag yourself out of bed.
So, my advice is simple…Listen to your heart, it might not always be easy, and will probably mean changing your life, letting go of people, money, careers, the safe option…It can and probably will be excruciatingly painful. But in the end your heart tells the truth of what you need to be happy and it’s worth it – You Are Worth It!
